About

Hi! I'm Lisette!

My sun sign is Aquarius, which explains why I’m obsessed with all things magical, mystical and esoteric and have trouble conforming to the status quo. I’m a Libra rising so I tend to avoid conflict and I’m a little prone to people pleasing. My moon is in Sagittarius which is probably where I get my thirst for knowledge and my love of travelling.

In numerology I’m an 11, which is a spooky master number that brings with it intuition, empathy and spiritual insight – and kinda explains why I was drawn to reading Tarot!

Full time unicorn

A few years ago I made a promise to myself. No matter how little I’d slept, how fat I felt or how few acting jobs I booked, I would do my best to feel awesome. I would do my best to understand that I AM AWESOME.

This promise came after years of creative self doubt, depression, anxiety and disordered eating. For years I’d let my inner voices say all kinds of awful things to me and it hadn’t worked out well. I was sick and tired of hating myself.

I knew though that waving goodbye to depression wasn’t going to be as easy as packing it a lunch and sending it on it’s way. It was going to be there lurking in the shadows, waiting for a moment of weekness, to saunter toward me like a like a bengal tiger and climb onto my back.

So I made a plan.

I would do all the things I loved. I would fill my life with them. I would do them because I loved them. I would not use them as conduits to prove my worth. I would do them because they were a part of me. I would be a writer an actor, a painter, a sculptor, a mother, a singer et. al in VERB form. The NOUN was irrelevant. It did not matter was I was called. It mattered what I was doing

So I wrote from my heart, I sang along to P.J Harvey as I painted, I found true connection with every scene I was doing and I stomped in puddles with my kids instead of baking cupcakes for the school fair.

I took the label out of everything I did and in doing so I also took out the ego.

I decided to treat myself with love and do things for myself as a loving act of service.

I made a commitment to having fun everyday. It didn’t matter what it was, it would be fun. I made a choice to find the fun in everything I did. And to this day I still do. Whether it’s folding washing whilst listening to podcasts, a cup of tea in the sun or a family trip to Fiji, I AM SO EXCITED!

Is every day easy? Perfect? Fabulous? Hell no. But it’s real, it’s mine and it’s fleeting.

I can wallow or I can dance. And I choose to dance!

Why? Because I’m a Full Time Unicorn, baby!

Writing

People often ask me why I write and my only explanation is this: I write because I must.

I began writing publicly in 2013 when I started a blog with a friend and since then have gone on to write for publications such as Headland Journal and The Spinoff.

The writing achievement I am most proud of is my debut fantasy novel Bianca De Lumiere; the story of a teenage outcast with supernatural powers.

Podcast

Have you ever seen a ghost?

I’m a self confessed ghost obsessive. That’s why I started a podcast of real life spooky stories from across New Zealand.

If you’ve got a ghost story of your own that you’d like to share, get in touch!

Acting

I started acting by accident (or should I say ACTcident? sorry).

It was high School in 1998 and because I am such a fringe dweller, most of the subjects I wanted to take clashed with each other.

It was maths or drama class and though it might seem like a simple decision for someone who is allergic to maths, it wasn’t. I was also painfully shy.

However after my first class I was hooked! I could hide inside the skin of other people! How dark and macabre! This teenage goth was converted!

Since then I’ve performed in plays, films and voiced countless ads. It’s fun and strange and fabulous.

I’m signed with Kirsty Bunny Management in New Zealand, as well as Big Mouth Voices.

Tarot

Tarot and I started dating about six years ago and we couldn’t be happier!

Seriously though, when I got my first ever deck of tarot cards all those years ago I had no idea how much tarot would change my life.

I started out reading for myself, then friends. Before I knew it friends of friends and total strangers were getting in touch with me for readings.

Now, I use tarot most days to process my thoughts, clear out old emotions and manifest abundance!

I offer readings in person or online via zoom or Skype. Or if you’re socially anxious like me you might prefer a pre-recorded video reading or a written report.
